One dead, one injured after shooting in Des Moines

Police are investigating a shooting Saturday evening that left one man dead and one woman injured. Des Moines police told KCCI that officers responded to a report of gunshots near 23rd Street and University Avenue around 5:46 pm Saturday. Dogtown neighborhood near Drake University. When the police arrived, they found a 35-year-old man on the edge of Rico’s restaurant. Police say CPR was being administered when first responders arrived at the scene. Doctors quickly took the man to the hospital, where he died. According to the police, the second person, a 29-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital sometime later by a private car. He has received treatment and has been released from the hospital. Police say they have recovered two guns related to the shooting. One gun was found on the side of the road. Police are continuing to investigate. Police say they are investigating claims the shooting was self-defense. This is Des Moines’ 17th homicide this year. This area is known as the Dogtown District near Drake University.

When the police arrived, they found a 35-year-old man on the edge of Rico’s restaurant. Police say CPR was being administered when first responders arrived at the scene. Doctors quickly took over and brought the man to the hospital where he died.

According to the police, the second person, a 29-year-old woman, was dropped off at a nearby hospital in a private car. He has been treated and released from the hospital.
