MAA created THE GATE as the intersection of Istanbul’s future and present

THE DOOR by Melike Altınısık Architects

Turkish practice Melike Altinisik Architects – MAA participated with “THE GATE” installed in Tersane Istanbul (Golden Horn Port) at the 21st Brand Conference.

“Where, how, and what do we live in? What kind of universe do we turn to live in?”

Melike Altinisik Architects created “THE GATE” with these unanswered questions looking for answers. MAA’s installation, “THE GATE,” creates an interactive spatial interface between the “present” and the “future.” At the same time, MAA seeks to give a new perspective to sustainable knowledge to heal the wounds we have left to nature and humanity for future generations.

“THE GATE,” according to the Tersane, has been known for a total of 550 years of mossy and stratified history and has been at the meeting of nature and man. “THE GATE” consists of a “time” and “space” that revolves around moving, interacting, and being with the viewer. People are questioned all their lives.

“Present and Future” is a general expression of nature and the universe that represents the second cause and integration. All the changes and activities in the historical process of Tersane show a double of continuity and infinity in its nature.

People have platforms and don’t understand them before entering this picture. When people see the sea, they dream of the land, the sky when they touch the earth, the sun they see at night, and the “future” when they are in the present.

“THE GATE” refers to the historical process that surrounds him on the physical plane, leading to his place. “THE GATE” preserves a new image with a corten gate in a city that contains contradictions, doubles, and the definition of infinity. At the same time, the perforated reflective surface in its center blurs all dualities. People flock to the city in this unique place where land and sea meet. While seeing “THE GATE,” people can look at themselves and what they are leaving behind.

“THE GATE,” tells the story of the present and the future through a digital board that interacts with a metal skin cast on the joint. The digital board of AR (Augmented Reality Technology) in “THE GATE” confronts the viewer with the clouds of “Present” and “Future” in the group of time. The “Present” interface creates scenes in the AR world to increase awareness of the climate issues that shake our world and live every day.

“THE GATE” allows the audience to see the destruction of today’s nature in an ever-changing world and the literal destruction of the urban landscape. People are beginning to understand the return of wild nature (re-wilding nature) to the “future” interface as the change and development of tectonics technology. Wild nature will be resurrected to “possibility,” and people, nature, and technology will coexist. Nature resurrected to tell the story of the fight against today’s problem.

“THE GATE” creates a long bridge between the present and the future and presents itself through the AR Interface. In addition to their morphology, compare them with different features. “THE GATE” is a metamorphosis, not a change. This journey, which was established by “THE GATE” over a long period of time, is one of personal inquiry in nature.
