Infobip GM for North America Interviewed on NBC’s TODAY Show

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today Infobip’s North American CEO, Helene Donahue appeared on NBC’s TODAY Show with the man who sent the world’s first text message, Neil Papworth. As part of the company’s international celebration of the “30th Anniversary of the SMS”, he discussed how technology has changed in the thirty years since the first message was sent – the simple “Merry Christmas” – and what the future holds for messages. . “SMS is a messaging system that has revolutionized the way we communicate, and with Infobip reaching 70% of cell phones worldwide, we felt we were the right fit to help make that announcement,” said Donahue. “Businesses are increasingly using SMS to communicate with customers to ask for feedback, send package notifications, provide security clearances, confirm appointments and more. Citing findings from Infobip’s “30th Anniversary of the SMS” survey, Donahue shared some surprising statistics about how, where and when Americans communicate with each other. Some of the highlights of the 1000 Americans survey include:

  • More than a third of respondents (36.9%) admitted to texting in a work meeting, with millennials being the most guilty (47.3%).

  • Almost half of millennials (45%) have texted drunk and sent a sad message.

  • A large share of millennials (36%) and Gen Zers (30.8%) texted each other during a wedding.

  • A surprising number of millennials (26.8%) reported texting at funerals.

  • Almost half of Gen Zers (45%) are addicted to text.

  • More than a quarter (26%) of millennials have received wedding invitations via text.

Infobip conducted a survey from Propeller Insights of 1,000 adults, gender matched and published in age groups from 18 to 65+ in the United States.
