AFAN to provide gadgets, inputs for 20 million Nigerian farmers

An Agri-Fintech Company, Tingo Mobile has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) to provide tools, agricultural inputs by way of credit to some 20 million farmers in the country.

In the MoA, AFAN is expected to stand among the farmers who can access these credit facilities and repay in a period of 36 months, using their agricultural products.

Tingo will provide inputs such as fertiliser, sprayers, tractors, chemicals and others for 20 million farmers.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Tingo Mobile, Ayoola Olaide, said they will mobilize farmers and provide them with mobile and Fintech solutions to enable them to access global markets.

He added that it is to create tools for farmers that they can use to upload their agricultural products and be able to sell them and get their payment on the go.

“We connect farmers across the country, provide them with phones and Fintech systems that enable farmers to access global markets and provide them with incentives and which helps the farmers to ensure that their products meet the international standards and they can enter the international market.

“Our business will allow us to provide farmers with mobile devices and these devices can be paid for in as little as 36 months.

With this gadget farmers will have voice calls and data so they can upload their farm produce and can sell it to their parents on the go.

“As technology advances, we are coming up with many solutions and we have partners around the world.

“We know that all the years, rural communities have been neglected and we know that food is the most important thing around the world, and if we think about agriculture, we can change the world.

“With this plan, we believe that our partnership with AFAN will give farmers everything they need to do well in their business,” he said.

The President of AFAN, Dr Farouk Mudi, said that he believes that with this kind of project, the economy of the nation will be saved.

He said that this work will be done directly with the farmers and the middlemen will be completely eliminated.
